James McClean gets more than his fair share of negative headlines.
The West Brom and Republic of Ireland winger usually hits the headlines around November time without fail, as he refuses to wear a poppy on his shirt.
Regardless of his political beliefs, McClean has proved he’s not all bad by paying for the funeral of a young boy from Derry, who was tragically killed after being run over.
Ronan McGavigan was just two years old when he was hit by a car on Lone Moor Road, Derry, after chasing a ball into the road.
The incident happened on Sunday afternoon, and a fundraising initiative was set up to help Ronan’s family raise money to pay for the funeral.
The target total was set at €1,200, but after hearing about the tragedy, McClean donated the entire amount himself.
Along with donations from the public, the total currently stands at just over €3,500.
It’s nice to see footballers helping people with their obscene amounts of cash, especially for such a horrific accident.
