When he takes time away from engaging in Twitter spats with the likes of Paul Gascoigne, it turns out Snoop Dogg is a big advocate of eradicating the gender pay gap, starting with the US women’s football team.
The rapper is calling for the champions to be paid the same as their male counterparts after the team bagged their fourth World Cup win yesterday (July 7.)
Taking to Instagram, Snoop demanded the team are ‘paid what they’re worth’ because ‘Snoop Dogg says so.’
Launching into his social media rant, he said:
Food for thought – shout out to the USA women’s soccer team for their fourth World Cup. They only get $90K [£72K] per player, but the men, if they win it, they get $500K [£399K] per player.
The sorry ass fucking men from the US soccer team, everyone’s shit, ain’t ever gonna win shit, can’t even get out the fucking first round. Man, pay them ladies, man. Pay them girls what they worth.
The women should be getting $500K per athlete. Snoop Dogg says so. Them girls have won four World Cups, and $90K? Man, please. Pay them $500K per player – Snoop Dogg says so.
USA soccer… let’s go girls.
The prize for last year’s men’s World Cup was a whopping $400 million (£319m), while female players only receive $30 million (£24m) this year.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the organisation plans to double that number ahead of the next women’s World Cup in 2023, however there’s still a long way to go before equality is established.
As reported by the Huffington Post, USA’s Megan Rapinoe said:
It certainly is not fair. We should double it now and use that number to double it or quadruple it for the next time.
