Wayne Rooney has been charged with drink driving after police pulled him over near his home in Cheshire in the early hours of this morning.
The Everton striker was driving a black VW Beetle on Altrincham Road in Wilmslow when officers stopped him at 2am.
Rooney, who rejoined his boyhood team in a move from Manchester United over the summer, has been released on bail and is due to appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on September 18.
Cheshire Police said the 31-year-old had been charged with driving while ‘over the prescribed limit’.
Rooney and his wife Coleen, recently announced they’re expecting their fourth child.
They are already parents to three boys, Kai, Klay and Kit, and are said to be planning to move house elsewhere in the Cheshire countryside.
More to follow.
