Anthony Joshua is used to a quick knock out, but last night Wladimir Klitschko took him further than he’d ever been. and tested his stamina.
The incredible bout saw both fighters floored during the 11 rounds, and now the 41-year-old Ukrainian legend has expressed his unequivocal interest in a re-match against the now IBF, WBA and IBO champ.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Klitschko said ‘Of course, we have it in the contract, right now I’m interested’ and explained that he needs to ‘analyse what the heck happened’
After the fight last night, Klitschko said:
The best man won tonight. And it’s an amazing event for boxing. Two gentleman fought each other and he was better today than I.
It’s really sad that I didnt make it tonight I was planning to do it but it didnt work. But all due respect to Anthony. Congratulations.
The tense fight saw Klitschko floor the 27-year-old Brit in round six before taking him past round seven for the first time in his 18 previous successful fights.
After the incredible win, where the ref had to step in to end the fight, Joshua said he would ‘fight anyone’ and would be open to fighting Klitschko again.
I don’t mind fighting him again, if he wants the rematch. Big respect to Wladimir for challenging the young lions of the division.
After the tense fight, Joshua called out Tyson Fury, who beat Klitschko in Germany two years ago but has been stripped of his boxing license.
AJ and Fury have recently traded blows on Twitter and Joshua shouted in the ring ‘Fury, Tyson Fury, where you at baby’.
Hopefully we’ll see a rematch soon!
