People are just realizing what a red circle at the top of your iPhone screen means

Apple iPhone users are getting freaked out by the 'red circle' on their 'Dynamic Island'

Some Apple fans are only just realizing what the red circle on the top of their iPhone means.

By some, we mean those who are willing to splash over a thousand dollars on Apple's premium iPhone Pro line-up.

Although the new iPhone 15 is fast approaching, back in September last year, Apple dropped the iPhone 14 where we witnessed the classic notch being replaced with an interactive 'Dynamic Island' for the 'pro' phones - also known as the phones with three cameras on the back instead of two.

Apple call it feature the 'place that bubbles up alerts, notifications, and activities'.

The tech giants say they designed the 'Dynamic Island' so it can change in size and shape depending on what's being displayed.

So if you're recording a voice note, playing a song, or receiving a phone call, the pill shaped cutout with expand into the screen with a larger interactive display.

The island also lets you view:

  • Apple Pay‌ transaction confirmations.
  • Privacy indicators when microphone or camera is in use.
  • AirDrop file transfers.
  • AirPods connection status and battery life.
  • ‌iPhone‌ charging status and battery life.
  • Low battery alerts.
  • Silent mode turned on or off.
  • ‌Face ID‌ unlocking.

However, some iPhone users have been taking to Reddit to ask what the 'red circle' on their 'Dynamic Island' means.

So there's no complex answer to this.

The red dot basically means that you are screen recording, a pretty handy feature iPhones have had for years.

On older or iPhones, without a 'Dynamic Island', you'll know you're screen recording when you see a similar red dot in the corner of the screen.

It's not exactly hard to miss.

Well, justifying the hefty price tag, Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing said at last year's launch: "Our customers count on their iPhone every day, and with iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, we’re delivering more advancements than any other iPhone.

"iPhone 14 Pro introduces a camera system that empowers every user - from the casual user to the professional - to take their best photos and video, and innovative new technologies like the Always-On display and the Dynamic Island, which offers new interactions for notifications and activities.

"Groundbreaking safety capabilities bring users even more security, offering help when they need it most.

"And with the incredibly powerful and efficient A16 Bionic chip and all-day battery life, this is the best iPhone yet."

If you like the sound of the 'Dynamic Island', you might as well wait a couple months for the new iPhone 15 model to drop before splashing the cash.
