A man's stroll along the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, was interrupted earlier this week when he discovered the washed up remains of an 'alien-like' creature.

Alex Tan was on Maroochydore Beach, about 63 miles north of Brisbane at the time, claiming he found the animal just after floods had hit the region.

“I’ve stumbled across something weird,” he said in a video posted to Instagram. “This is like one of those things you see when people claim they’ve found aliens."

Still yet to be officially identified, the creature has many features similar to that of a reptile, with four limbs and a tail.

Tan's post soon went viral after he shared images of his discovery, with a number of users suggesting which animal it could be.

As The Independent reports, many replies to the original post speculated that it might have been a baby kangaroo or a wallaby.

Initially, Tan thought he had found a dead possum.

He offered anyone with a better explanation a chicken parmigiana at the pub.

“I want to put the deal out there – if it’s not a possum I will shout that person a chicken parmy,” he said.

While the creature in this instance was found by the ocean, the recent floods in the area might be a clue as to how it ended up on the beach - especially if it is a land-based animal as many suspect.

Tan later told news.com.au: “It was just after we had all that stuff washed up on beaches from the floods.

"Its hands were really weird. I’m just calling it an alien.

People speculated the creature could be a possum or baby kangaroo.

"I’m excited to hear what it would be."

Another alien-like creature was found washed up on a San Diego beach last year, although it looked drastically different to Tan's discovery.

Jet black, with a gaping under-bite, spiky teeth and a bulb protruding from its head, it was later identified as a Pacific Football Fish - which had unfortunately drifted outside of its deep-sea habitat.
