An update for the Playstation 5 aims to fix a common problem that many users have had with the console.
The hugely popular consoles ended up in such high demand that stocks ran out almost immediately.
While that's now stabilised, many users have pointed out a feature of the console which can be a little irritating.

This isn't so much of a problem if you are using the console to game on.
However, the PS5 can be used for a lot more than just gaming, with people also using it for streaming their favourite TV shows.
And it's when streaming that some users are encountering the frustrating issue.
Relaxing to watch your favourite show is how many people blow off steam, and when you do that you want the ambience to be just right.

Unfortunately, this problem can slightly get in the way of that.
So what exactly is the problem?
Well, it all comes down to the light bar on the device.

This switches on to indicate when the PS5 is switched on. It's a large light strip that goes all the way around the console.
The light makes it clear when the device is on or in standby, glowing blue when it's on and orange when it's on standby.
It definitely looks cool, but the issue some users are having is that it's so bright that it can get in the way of streaming their favourite shows or when playing very atmospheric video games.
Some have even fitted adhesive strips to block the light while streaming as it was so annoying.

But now, after much demand from users, Sony is finally planning to add a feature which aims to solve this problem.
And the solution is simple enough.
They're planning to add in an option to dim the light with a new setting in the software.

An upcoming software update on the devices means that you will be able to control the brightness on the light in the device settings.
In fact, beta testers actually already have access to this setting.
The setting will have three options, dim, medium, and bright.
At the moment, bright is the default setting on the PS5, so hopefully the other two settings will offer a significant reduction in the brightness.
This new setting will be available in the 'system' branch of the settings menu, along with a setting that lets you turn down the volume on the beep that the PS5 emits when switched on.
