Elon Musk says he bought Twitter to save the world from 'human extinction'

Elon Musk has opened up about the reasons why he bought Twitter and turned it into X.

In a new interview with Joe Rogan, the tech billionaire says it was the 'mind virus' that ultimately prompted him to snap up with the social media app.

In previous discussions, Musk has included the word 'woke' when discussing this 'mind virus'.

He has been concerned that the efforts at becoming a more progressive, tolerant, accepting and encompassing society is actually its downfall.

Musk brought up the concept of cancel culture and how Joe Rogan has been subjected to multiple attempts at being cancelled (even though he still has the number one podcast in the world).

The billionaire fears these efforts to criticize people when they don't ultimately fit a specific worldview has a massive negative effect on society as a whole.

When asked why he bought Twitter, Musk replied: "This is going to sound somewhat melodramatic, but I was worried that it was having a corrosive effect on civilization...that it was having a bad impact."

He pointed to the headquarters of Twitter/X and how downtown San Francisco has turned into a 'zombie apocalypse'.

The city has been embroiled in a drug use and homelessness crisis in the past few years, according to a UN report.

Musk says this is representative of the 'mind virus'.

"What philosophy led to that outcome?" he rhetorically asked Rogan.

"That philosophy was being piped to Earth...a philosophy that would ordinarily be quite niche and geographically constrained so that the fallout area would be limited."

He believes this idea was effectively given a 'information technology weapon' in the form of Twitter/X that allowed the 'mind virus' to propagate around the world.

"The outcome of that mind virus is very clear if you walk around the streets of downtown San Francisco...it is the end of civilisation."

Rogan agreed that the mind virus doesn't allow for any opposing views because it 'doesn't stand up to scrutiny'.

The podcast host called the virus a 'death cult' and Musk agreed that these people are propagating 'the extinction of humanity and civilization'.

Musk admitted that most people with the 'mind virus' aren't implicitly doing it, but that's why he felt the need to buy Twitter.

"I'm not in favor of human extinction," he remarked to Rogan.

However, it's unclear how much better the world has become since he bought the social media site.
