Nigel Thornberry As A Real Human Will Give You Nightmares

It’s not really something I’ve given much thought, to be honest. We haven’t seen any new episodes of The Wild Thornberrys since 2004, despite it being fondly remembered by Nickelodeon kids everywhere.

However, though Eliza, Marianne, Donnie, Debbie and and Darwin were all great characters, it was family patriarch Nigel whose cult status has grown and grown since the show stopped airing.

Voiced by the inimitable Tim Curry, Nigel Thornberry or, to give him his full title, Sir Nigel Archibald Thornberry KBE, is a wildlife documentarian, who takes his family along for the ride while he works.

Somewhat inspired by Sir David Attenborough, Nigel is an eccentric, enthusiastic and terribly posh Brit. And while many people are happy to see him and his family roam the jungle, one person has decided to bring this larger than life character to scarily real life.

You may be familiar with Miguel Vasquez’s work already. He’s so far revealed his redesigns of characters such as Homer Simpson and Spongebob Squarepants as ‘human’ beings – though where you’d find this kind of human I’m not so sure.

Homer hasn’t really changed that much in the last 29 years, and I think it’s safe to say, we’re all happy with the Duff-loving dad just the way he is.

However, artist Miguel had other ideas, and decided to terrify us all by creating a human version of The Simpsons character.

Check it out:

Miguel, who lives in Ontario, Canada, is a 3D artist, and has found a love for making our favourite cartoon characters come to life.

As incredible as his work is, it’s also kind of disturbing. Unfortunately, this means we’ll never quite see our animated friends in the same way again.

I mean, just look at his version of Spongebob Squarepants. He’s taken a happy-go-lucky sea sponge and turned him into a manic, Frankenstein-looking nightmare:

I’m curious to know what Miguel does with all of these models after he makes them. Imagine having human Spongebob on display in your bedroom, staring down at you with that unnerving smile.

However, as nightmarish as these are, it’s Miguel’s recreation of Nigel Thornberry that will imprint itself on you brains.

His trademark toothy grin, bright red hair and moustache that somehow grows horizontally are all captured here in disturbing detail. And those bulging, bloodshot eyes are something else.

Naturally, the internet has responded brilliantly:

One person wrote:

I always imagined him like a ginger version of Nigel Havers. I typed Nigel havers into GIFs and i didn’t find one pic of him but apparently nigel thornberrys face replacing other people’s is a thing.

Which is kinda weird, admittedly, but I think it’s my new favourite thing.

I know art is supposed to make you think about things, the ‘big’ subjects like life and death and whatever, but to make you think about cartoon characters and what they’d look like if their crazy animation was real? Scary.

That’s enough internet for today.
