Warning: Spoilers for The Walking Dead season seven.

With The Walking Dead’s seventh season coming to a close, fans have predicted the finale will be rife with death and deception – and this week’s episode proves it.

Sunday’s The Other Side stayed true to those predictions as we finally saw Sasha and Rosita embark on their mission to – unsuccessfully – assassinate Negan at the Sanctuary.

As the episode drew to a close, a plot twist saw Sasha lock Rosita out of the compound and run fully armed into the Sanctuary, fully prepared to die avenging the death of Abraham.

In the few final moments, Rosita looks fearful as she spots a long-haired crossbow-wielding figure stood in the shadows.

Think of a crossbow and you’d immediately place Daryl as the lurking shadow, and it’s a fair bet to assume it could be him given a previous scene shows him discovering that Sasha and Rosita had gone missing.

However, given the look of pure terror on Rosita’s face, it’s a safe bet to say it’s not Daryl, and is instead Negan’s right-hand man and fellow long-haired character, Dwight.

Dwight’s loyalty to his leader has been wavering the entire season, and with Eugene now inside the compound as an ally, it looks as though Negan may just have himself a new best friend, throwing Dwight out of the picture.

Sasha and Rosita’s first mission was to save Eugene, and as predicted, Eugene – taken in by the respect he receives from the
Saviours – had no desire to be rescued. When he previously said to Negan: “I’m Negan. I’m utterly, completely stone-cold Negan,” he meant it.

And if you remember what Morgan said way before the season started, we should have seen it coming:

There are some people who go to the dark side who are going to take you by surprise, and there are some people who are going to come over to the light.

Eugene has already switched sides and will probably deceive his friends, leaving another character to fulfil the rest of the prediction and head over to the good side.

Dwight, anyone?
