A Who Wants To Be A Millionaire contestant shocked audiences last night (May 10) when he revealed he knew the answer to a question, as he lost his leg there.

Amputee Gareth Kendall, from Halifax, appeared on the popular gameshow yesterday, stunning both host Jeremy Clarkson as well as the audience, as he revealed why he knew the answer to the £125,000 question.

This is because the answer to the tricky question was the location of where he lost his leg in a car crash.

You can watch the moment Gareth left Jeremy gobsmacked here:

Moving on to the £125,000 question with no lifelines left, Gareth looked tense as Jeremy asked him:

The ruins of Urquhart Castle stand on the banks of which loch?

However, once the host had finished reading out the question, Gareth smiled being presented with a choice of four answers – Loch Lomond, Loch Ness, Loch Broom and Loch Maree.

He didn’t even need the multiple choice answers as Gareth knew exactly which Loch it was!

Gareth told Jeremy:

I know this. And I know this because I lost my leg there. Not at the castle, chill out.

I lost it in Inverness. If I remember rightly, there on the loch, and I wasn’t there long, there is a little inlet with a castle ruin there, so I’ll go Loch Ness.

My wife would kill me if I lost this much money!

Audiences and Jeremy were completely gobsmacked by Gareth’s response and anxiously awaited to see if he was correct.

Of course, he was right – leading to a massive applause from the audience.

As Jeremy asked Gareth to explain more about the accident, he opened up saying:

We had booked a tour to go to see it and that day I crashed. I remember the castle.

I’m pretty certain it’s one of the only castles up there.

Twitter users shared their shock at the coincidence of Gareth being asked that question.

One tweeter, Rebekka-Mary Darling wrote:

No way. His lost leg has won him £125,000! That’s mad. What a mad question for him to get! #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire

While another, Liz Marshall, was equally taken aback tweeting:

‘I know this because I lost my leg there.’

Holy MOLY! That has earned him £125,000!!!

WOW!

Someone by the name of ‘Greg’ enjoyed the episode, writing on Twitter:

‘I know this answer cause I lost my leg there’… You couldn’t write it… that is fate!!! #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire

Feeling luck was on his side, Gareth continued to play on, having a go at the £250,000 question.

However, this tricky one left him slightly bamboozled, as he was asked about London museums.

Although he confessed to having an ‘inkling’, Gareth admitted he wasn’t ‘brave’ enough to take a punt at his first choice, The British Museum.

Deciding to walk away with the money, Jeremy then broke the devastating news to Gareth, if he’d stuck with his instincts, he’d have won the £250,000 prize.

Still, taking home £125,000 isn’t bad now is it!
