Things got intense at the official weigh-ins ahead of CM Punk’s UFC debut as the former WWE superstar refused to shake his opponent Mickey Gall’s hand.
The ex-WWE champ (real name Phil Brooks) has been relatively quiet on the mic in the lead up to his mixed martial arts bow, but it seems he’s lost none of his pro-wrestling style showmanship to sell a fight.
Gall held his hand out as Punk stepped off the scales but the tattooed star was having none of it. Unsurprisingly, an intense staredown followed.
As a clearly frustrated Gall talked smack as he walked off the stage, Punk’s stoic expression turned to a smile, before he flexed and roared to fire up the crowd.
Punk’s reasoning for not shaking Gall‘s hand was simple (and badass):
I’m not here to shake anybody’s hand. I’m here to punch people in the face.
The mind games are in full swing!
The 37-year-old Punk had little to no significant MMA experience before signing with the UFC in December 2014, so many eyes will be glued to the Octagon tonight to see how he fares after about a year-and-a-half’s work at Roufusport in Milwaukee.
Elsewhere at the pre-fight ceremonial weigh ins, Bethe Correia and Jessica Eye got really heated and the two had to be separated:
