If you haven’t seen Star Wars The Force Awakens then get a bloody move on, but also be warned this article contains some spoilers, although we’ll keep them to somewhat of a minimum.
Inevitably following its release, the first Disney installment of the franchise has introduced many new characters and posed many questions.
One addition that has sparked widespread debate and often unhealthy internet name-calling, is that of Rey who, in true Star Wars fashion, does not know her parents having been left on a junkyard planet at the age of five.
The female protagonist describes herself as a scavenger, but her links to the force are undeniable, plus her character’s possession of a blue lightsaber has many suggesting it was Luke Skywalker’s, and thus she is his daughter.
But the most popular theory emerging now is that Rey is actually the granddaughter of Obi-wan Kenobi.
It is a pretty compelling case, the similar costumes, the British accent, the use of Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness’ voice over, but hey, until the films explicitly say otherwise the debate can continue.
