Ark now hear, the dinosaurs sing – it’s been confirmed that the popular dinosaur game is coming to HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and PlayStation VR for a special virtual reality experience.
Developer Snail Games have announced Ark Park, in which the magic of VR will allow gamers to immerse themselves in a Jurassic Parkesque compound of prehistoric beasts.
It remains to be seen whether the dinosaurs will eventually break out and cause chaos, in the vein of the classic film – probably not though.
What you can do however, is visit a number of different biomes in which you’ll come across all manner of dinosaurs and other extinct monsters, such as the humble Dodo.
You’ll be able to explore on foot, in a vehicle, or even on the back of a dinosaur in adventures called Excursions, which can be played alone or with friends.
Check out the first trailer below.
There’s more to the game than just wandering about looking at things though – we’ll also be able to wander about collecting things, in the form of Gene Cubes which are scattered around the world.
Collecting cubes will add information about certain beasts to your library, so you’ll need a keen eye if you want to catch ’em all.
Snail Games said in a post on the PlayStation Blog:
Determined visitors will need to use a combination of puzzle-solving logic, action skills, exploration, and careful resource management to bag the most prized animals.
Not only does bagging the cubes give you info about the animals, it also allows you to ‘tame’ the creatures and visit them in a petting zoo where you can feed and interact with them, without getting your arms ripped off.
Ark Park was developed with help from Studio Wildcard, who work on the main Ark series. It’ll be out sometime in 2017.
