At 5:00 p.m., deputies were alerted to a possible road rage incident near the intersection of Beneva Road and Riviera Drive. One of the witnesses recorded the hit and run incident on his cell phone. The video shows the victim riding a motorcycle traveling southbound on Beneva Road behind a grey Mazda 3 hatchback.
The motorcyclist changes lanes and drives alongside the Mazda where the motorcyclist appears to be in a dispute with the other driver. The video was released on social media by a witness Sunday evening and is now being shared by detectives in hopes that someone can identify the suspect’s vehicle.
The Mazda appears to be grey in color, with a large white decal on the back window. Anyone with information related to this incident, vehicle or possible driver is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Section at 941.861.4317.
One commenter fumed:
I live on Beneva road and we’ve had 2 cars in our front yard in last 2 months. People don’t care how they drive anymore. The first car was a guy in his Mom’s car shooting up while driving. The second was a true medical issue.
I’m just confused with all of the technology available why they are not able to pause the video and zoom in and get a license plate number or identify the extremely large decals on the back of the car.
A third reasoned:
Both possibly in the wrong but with the contents in the video and the info on hand the hatchback driver is completely at fault. The solution to whatever quarrel the hatchback driver had with the biker should’ve never been violent. Running him off the road and nearly killing him… For what?
Looks like the jury’s truly still out on this one. What do you make of this debacle? Who’s to blame here?
