You might have seen an article doing the rounds in the last two days about a retired MI5 agent claiming to have responsible for Princess Diana’s death. Well, I’m sorry to announce that it’s bollocks.

Yes, the YourNewsWire – a fake news site – published a bit of fake news but convinced thousands.

They had reported that an 80-year-old British man who had been involved in “MI5 assassinations between June 1973 and December 1999”.

It read that ‘John Hopkins’ had exposed the following:

Mr. Hopkins says Princess Diana is unique among his victims, as she is the only female he ever assassinated, as well as the only Royal. She is also the only victim that the Royal Family themselves ordered to be taken out … He claims to feel “ambivalent” about Princess Diana’s death. On the one hand, Diana was “a beautiful, kind-hearted woman” who did not deserve to have her life cut short. But according to Mr. Hopkins, she was also placing the British Crown at risk.

Alas, John Hopkins doesn’t exist. Well, somebody called John Hopkins will, on Facebook or something. But he won’t be a retired assassin with an unrealistic ambition to admit killing royalty. John Hopkins is probably one of those people with a webcam profile picture of them looking like they don’t know where there are, who they are, or where they’re going. Dog in the background. Shite sofa. That’s John Hopkins.
