A vegan has launched a scathing attack on a meat eater for enjoying tofu, claiming it’s a form of ‘cultural appropriation’.

Anna Del Rey, from Michigan, was accused of ‘pretending to be a vegan’ after she posted a recipe for tofurkey on a vegan Facebook page.

The 17-year-old college student received a pleasant message complementing her recipe, but things soon turned sour when Anna revealed she in fact ate meat.

Apparently veganism is a culture and I’m appropriating it by eating tofu ? I’m proud of this girl for standing up for…

The mysterious vegan completely switched when she found out, saying:

So your [sic] like pretending to be a vegan cause it’s cool and in? I’ve been vegan for 3 years now and it was the best decision I’ve made in my life. It’s not hip or cool. It’s important.

Tofu is strictly for vegans and vegetarians. You are basically admitting to appropriating us and stealing what we need for your own selfish use.

Anna posted the extraordinary messages on Facebook and they’ve been shared over 4.7k times since Wednesday evening.

Anna, who had initially apologised for not being vegan, explained that she ‘doesn’t like the taste and texture of most meats’, preferring tofu a lot of the time.

The mystery vegan asked the Facebook group to ban Anna from it, and they did, until her post went viral and then they decided to accept her back again.

Others on social media were quick to defend themselves, reassuring Anna that they’re not all like that and they ‘make us all look insane’.

In response, Anna wrote:

Good for you!! That’s great! I am not pretending to be a vegan at all. In fact I’m quite open about eating beef on profile. There’s a public post that states that. I just like tofu more than most meats.

Pointing out the absurdity of it all, perfectly saying:

With all due respect, I’m not appropriating anything, I’m eating food I like you absolute f**k.

In her Facebook post about the exchange, Anna wrote:

Yes I know all vegans aren’t like this. She’s not even a true vegan honestly. I posted this originally for my friends (including my vegan friends) to laugh at and make fun. Not to ‘orchestrate a hidden agenda against vegans’.

The whole exchange is hilarious, and the vegan is clearly being ridiculous.

If there is any cultural appropriation going on at all, it’s the tofu coming from Asia, not vegans.
