Jada Pinkett Smith Admits She Never Wanted To Get Married In Resurfaced Clip (Red Table Talk)

A resurfaced clip has shown Jada Pinkett Smith confessing that she 'never wanted to be married'.

Pinkett Smith and Will Smith have been thrust further into the spotlight ever since Smith took to the stage at the 94th Academy Awards and slapped Chris Rock after he made a 'GI Jane 2' joke about his wife.

The Set It Off actor has often spoken openly about her relationship with Smith on her Facebook series Red Table Talk - having previously admitted to dating singer August Alsina, who recently released a song about the 'entanglement'.

However, a resurfaced clip from an episode which first aired in 2018 shows Pinkett Smith open up about her feelings towards her wedding with Smith, revealing she 'really didn't wanna get married'.

Joined on the 'Becoming Mr and Mrs Smith' episode by her husband and daughter, Willow, Pinkett Smith opened up about her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, a.k.a. 'Gammy' and her role in the wedding.

She explained that her mother pressed for her to wed Smith after learning of her daughter's pregnancy with the couple's first son, Jaden - two years into their relationship.

Pinkett Smith said: “I was under so much pressure, you know, being a young actress, being young, and I was just, like, pregnant and I just didn’t know what to do.

Smith backed up Pinkett Smith's recollection of the pressure the pair faced. "We only got married because Gammy was crying," he reflected.

Pinkett Smith replied: "It was almost as if Gammy was like, 'You have to get married, so let's talk about the wedding'."

Banfield-Norris even confirmed herself: "I remember feeling very strongly and wanting you guys to be married."

However, while admitting her strong desire to see her daughter wed Smith, Banfield-Norris said she didn't remember Pinkett Smith's 'rejection of the idea of marriage'.

"I remember the rejection of the idea of a wedding but not a marriage," she said.

"And now Gammy done gone to Will, crying about ‘I don’t want a wedding,’ and now I’m being forced to have a wedding. I just wanted it to be the two of us on a mountain because I was like: ‘This is serious business'," Pinkett Smith stated.

The pair first met on the set of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in 1994, before beginning to date a year later, with the pair eventually getting married in December 1997 after Smith proposed earlier in November.

The wedding was a private ceremony at Cloisters Castle in Pinkett Smith's hometown of Baltimore, Maryland.

"The wedding was horrible. It was a mess. Jada was sick, she was very unpleasant … She didn’t cooperate with anything," Banfield-Norris reflected.

Pinkett Smith explained: “And I was so upset that I had to have a wedding. I was so p*ssed I went crying down the freaking aisle. I cried the whole way down the aisle.”

However, Smith recalled his excitement prior to the day from having been 'picturing what [his] family would be' since the age of five.

"There wasn’t a day in my life that I wanted anything other than being married and having a family," he said.

Despite the drama surrounding their wedding day, on the episode, the pair resolved it was 'the right call' and Pinkett Smith's mother apologised for her pushy role and 'selfish' motivations.
