Following Perry's death, The County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner confirmed in a statement that the actor had died accidentally, due to the effects of ketamine.

Other contributing factors in Perry’s death also included 'drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine (used to treat opioid use disorder)'.

"On October 28, at approximately 1600 hours, Mr. Perry was found unresponsive in the pool at his residence. After 911 was called, paramedics responded to the scene and death was pronounced," the statement read.

"... On October 29, the deputy medical examiner completed an autopsy on Mr. Perry. Following the completion and receipt of relevant test results, the cause and manner of death were certified."

Following Perry's death, an outpouring of tributes were made from fellow co-stars as well as millions of Friends fans around the world.

And during a red carpet interview at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards this week, Aniston, 54 told fans how they could continue to honor Perry.

An Entertainment Tonight reporter asked: "How do you hope people continue to celebrate Matthew's legacy?"

To which Aniston responded: "Celebrate it."

Aniston, along with Friends co-stars David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Matt Le Blanc and Courteney Cox shared a joint statement in the days after Perry's death, saying: "We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.

“In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”

In an individual tribute posted a few days later, Aniston shared a text exchange between herself and Perry.

"Oh boy this one has cut deep... Having to say goodbye to our Matty has been an insane wave of emotions that I’ve never experienced before," she wrote.

"We all experience loss at some point in our lives. Loss of life or loss of love. Being able to really SIT in this grief allows you to feel the moments of joy and gratitude for having loved someone that deep. And we loved him deeply.

"... In the last couple weeks, I’ve been poring over our texts to one another. Laughing and crying then laughing again. I’ll keep them forever and ever. I found one text that he sent me out of nowhere one day. It says it all. (See the second slide…)."

His text reads: "Making you laugh just made my day. It made my day:)."

"Awww the first of THOUSANDS of times..." Aniston responded.
