Jennifer Aniston says Matthew Perry was ‘happy’ as she speaks out about actor’s death

Jennifer Aniston spoke about Matthew Perry in her first interview since his death

Jennifer Aniston has given some insight into Matthew Perry's mindset before his passing.

Perry tragically died in late October after being found unconscious at his home in Los Angeles.

While he'd long battled alcohol and substance abuse, Perry was said to be in a good place at the time of his death.

He used his own experiences to try and help others going through the same thing - even creating a sober living center in Malibu mansion at one stage.

Perry's cause of death is yet to be determined after his initial autopsy results came back inconclusive.

But, despite his previous struggles, his Friends co-star and real life friend, Jennifer Aniston said that the late 54-year-old was 'happy'.

"He was happy. He was healthy. He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy – that’s all I know," she told Variety in her first interview since Perry's passing.

Aniston had been texting the 17 Again star on the morning of his death and shared screenshots of their conversation to Instagram when paying tribute to him.

"I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty. He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was happy," Aniston went on to say.

"I want people to know he was really healthy, and getting healthy. He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard."

The Morning Show actress added that Perry 'was dealt a tough one' in regards to his addiction battles and said she misses him 'dearly'.

"He made us laugh really hard," she added.

It wasn't until Perry was laid to rest on November 3 that his devastated Friends co-stars publicly paid tribute to the comic.

In the days that followed his funeral, Aniston shared a black and white snap of them laughing during rehearsals, a screenshot of their last chat and a snippet of a Friends scene.

She penned next to the photos in her heartbreaking tribute: "Oh boy this one has cut deep... Having to say goodbye to our Matty has been an insane wave of emotions that I’ve never experienced before.

"We all experience loss at some point in our lives. Loss of life or loss of love.

"Being able to really SIT in this grief allows you to feel the moments of joy and gratitude for having loved someone that deep. And we loved him deeply."

She went on describe Perry has her 'chosen family' alongside Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt Le Blanc and David Schwimmer.

"Rest little brother. You always made my day," Aniston concluded the moving post.
