Matthew McConaughey has had a scary incident at a recent meet-and-greet event but was able to ensure the safety of his fans and enforce a restraining order against an alleged stalker.
The Dallas Buyers Club star was attending an event to promote his new book, a children's fable on morality titled 'Just Because', when a woman tried to approach him.
According to TMZ, McConaughey knew the woman in question. The actor alleged she has been bothering him for years, which is why the police were informed of the restraining order he'd filed against her.

Upon showing up to the book launch, the alleged stalker was greeted by officers who immediately escorted her out before she could try and get close to the star.
The woman, whose identity hasn't been disclosed to the public, has allegedly attempted to be in touch with McConaughey since last year through emails, letters and lawsuits. Things escalated when she showed up at the book presentation, where children were present.
Recently, the Interstellar actor has received praise from fans for putting his kids' safety first. He and his wife, model and designer Camila Alves, revealed they've banned their eldest son Levi to get his own social media accounts until he turned 15.

Of course, Levi had been asking his parents to be able to have his own profiles for years, as McConaughey explained to Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush on the Today Show.
"Oh he wanted it early on, probably when he was 12, definitely 13. Definitely 14. And we waited till he was 15," the star said.
"We tried to look at the up falls and the downfalls. It's not like sending your kid off to college, but it is like sending your kids off with a bunch of strangers into the world," he continued.

McConaughey and Alves spent some time making sure Levi fully understood the pros and cons of having a social media presence and how pervasive that can become.
"Because what happens a lot of times with young people and social media is they wake up in the morning and the first thing on their mind is, 'What will be a good post?' instead of, 'What do I want to do today?'" McConaughey said.
His and Alves's decision was met with support from fans, particularly parents who've chosen the same approach to make sure their children comprehend the scope of social media before building their own profiles.
