Britney Spears claims Justin Timberlake doesn’t ‘understand’ the power he had in ‘shaming’ her

The star has opened up about the breakup in a new memoir

Britney Spears has claimed that Justin Timberlake still 'doesn't understand' how he 'shamed' her years after their breakup.

Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears were two of the biggest musicians back in the early 2000's and the couple soon went public with their relationship in 1999, taking the world by storm.

But the relationship ended in 2002 amid allegations that Britney had cheated on Justin with choreographer Wade Robson.

The singer has since claimed in her upcoming memoir, The Woman in Me, that she was vilified in the wake of the break up while Justin was seen as 'America's golden boy'.

Justin went on to release his song 'Cry Me a River' in which Britney was seemingly portrayed in a negative light while he was 'sad in the rain', according to Britney.

Although the pop icon has admitted that she was unfaithful to Justin, she also claimed that she was not the only guilty party in this respect, saying: "Justin neglected to mention the several times he'd cheated on me".

The 41-year-old also said that the success of 'Cry Me a River' had felt like being publicly 'shamed' to her.

She said: "Everyone felt very sorry for [Justin] and it shamed me."

Britney also addressed the reasons as to why she never came out with Justin's alleged infidelity at the time.

She explained that back when the pair broke up, there hadn't been a way for her to tell her side of the story, because he had 'convinced the world of his version'.

Britney added: "I don't think Justin realised the power he had in shaming me. I don't think he understands to this day."

This is not the only revelation to come out in the new book, however, with Britney also claiming in an excerpt obtained by People that she'd had an abortion aged 19.

She wrote: "It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated.

"He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young. I’m sure people will hate me for this, but I agreed not to have the baby.

"I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father."
