Mark Wahlberg says his kids think he's 'cringe'

The actor revealed that his children think of him as 'cringe' and that he sometimes embarrasses them by singing Vanilla Ice

Mark Wahlberg has revealed that he thinks that his kids think of him as 'cringe'.

The 52-year-old actor and musician has four children with his wife, Rhea Durham, 45.

The eldest is 20-year-old Ella, then Michael, 17, Brendan, 15, and 13-year-old Grace being the youngest.

In a recent interview with the Telegraph, Wahlberg was asked if his children think of him as being 'cool'.

You might think that being a big shot in Hollywood might create that impression for your children.

But you would, of course, be wrong.

Responding to the question, Wahlberg said: "I think we’re cool when it’s convenient, getting something done for them and meeting somebody they want to meet."

Which, that would make sense, but things are very different when it's not someone that the children are interested in meeting.

The star explained that when they get home, they are just plain old mom and dad.

He said: "But, you know, it’s fun for us, because we do live this kind of exciting life of pretend, making movies. We go home, and we’re just boring parents again."

Nonetheless, Wahlberg confided that they try to help their children with their wisdom, sometimes it doesn't quite go as they might plan.

He said: "They don’t realize we’ve been through all these things, and we’re trying to pass that experience and knowledge onto our kids to make their lives a little bit easier and help them avoid making some of the mistakes we’ve made."

In fact, in certain scenarios having a famous parent can just be straight up 'cringe', which apparently means it's bad.

Wahlberg said: "For them, it’s cringe. They definitely don’t want to hear that."

Nonetheless, having a father who is famous also gives Wahlberg plenty of opportunity to embarrass his children, such as one scene in The Family Plan which sees Wahlberg singing along to Vanilla Ice.

He said: "They did get a big laugh out of that particular scene. They like to laugh at me."

The 2023 movie The Family Plan sees Wahlberg taking on the part of an elite government assassin who leaves that life behind to become a suburban car salesman.

A synopsis of the Apple TV movie reads: "When enemies from his past track him down, Dan packs his unsuspecting wife (Monaghan), angsty teen daughter, pro-gamer teen son and adorable 10-month-old baby into their minivan and takes off on an impromptu cross-country road trip to Las Vegas."
