Sydney Sweeney hits back at Hollywood producer who claimed she’s ‘not pretty’ and ‘can’t act’

Sydney Sweeney has responded to Carol Baum's recent remarks

Sydney Sweeney has hit back at a producer who claimed she's 'not pretty' and 'can't act'.

Sweeney is one of Hollywood's top talents as of late, starring in the likes of Euphoria, Anyone but You and The White Lotus.

However, it appears not everyone is a fan of the 26-year-old actor - and film producer Carol Baum recently made her feelings towards Sweeney clear.

Baum is known for working on movies such as Father of the Bride, The Good Girl, and Fly Away Home.

And she hit headlines earlier this week when she spoke with New York Times film critic, Janet Maslin, in front of fans.

"I don’t get Sydney Sweeney. I was watching on the plane Sydney Sweeney's movie because I wanted to watch it," she said.

"I wanted to know who she is and why everybody's talking about her.

"I watched this unwatchable movie - sorry to people who love this movie - [this] romantic comedy where they hate each other."

Baum explained how she had used her thoughts on Sweeney in a class she taught at the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

"I said to my class, 'Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so hot?'" she said.

“Nobody had an answer, but then the question was asked, 'Well if you could get your movie made because she was in it, would you do it?'"

Recounting the interaction, Baum concluded: “We all want to get the movie made and who walks away from a green light? Nobody I know. Your job is to get the movie made.”

Many fans and people who have worked with Sweeney were quick to defend the star from Baum's remarks.

Teddy Schwarzman, a co-producer on her new film Immaculate, wrote on X: "I’ll enlighten Ms. Baum that two-time Emmy nominee Sydney Sweeney is not only one of the most talented actresses I’ve worked with but also incredibly smart, kind and humble."

And Sweeney has now hit back at the Hollywood producer.

A representative for the actor told UNILAD: "How sad that a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman. If that’s what she’s learned in her decades in the industry and feels is appropriate to teach to her students, that’s shameful.

"To unjustly disparage a fellow female producer speaks volumes about Ms Baum’s character."

Baum has since told TMZ that she regrets the comments.

UNILAD has contacted Baum for further comment.
