Employee has epic response to boss who tried to cancel annual leave in ‘appalling’ text

This is brilliant

When you book off annual leave at work, you don't expect it to be canceled at the last moment - especially if you've got a holiday to Bali booked.

But one man from Australia actually received a text from his boss who tried to cancel his time off - and his response has been praised online.

The texts were shared on TikTok by Michael Sanz - AKA @theoutsourcingexpert - who told news.com.au he was surprisingly sent the screengrabs by the boss, Nick.

“You’re not going to believe this message I just got sent," he said in the video.

Nick had actually sent the TikToker the message believing he was in the right, but Michael - who is an outsourcing expert - made it very clear that what he was asking of his staff was totally unacceptable.

In the first message, the employee, called Noel, receives an email from his boss to tell him that because another staff member has resigned, his annual leave will have to be canceled.

It reads: "Hi Noel, Jenny has resigned so we need to cancel your leave next week - all hands on deck while we try to replace her.

"We can push back a few months. I've advised HR it's now changed for you. Appreciate your understanding."

Noel replied, explaining that while he totally understood that the situation was a tricky one, he was due to head to his brother's wedding in Bali, which meant there was no way he could cancel his leave.

"I did book this seven months ago, so canceling isn't an option," his text explained, adding that he would be happy to help out more until he heads on his holiday, if that would be useful.

But Nick wasn't having any of it, suggesting that Noel instead cut his holiday down to just three days, instead of the three weeks he had booked.

"Not sure what you can do in Bali for three weeks, haha," Nick added.

Noel then responded, asking if his boss could hire a temp to cover, and emphasising that it was no-one else's business how he spends his leave.

Nick simply responded: "Mate, can't stress enough, your leave is canceled, we just can't do it. I'm sorry."

Following the final message, Noel had just about had enough.

"Hi Nick, I actually don't want to come back to work now. I'm quite shocked at this email. I'm going to take my leave earlier and start from today," he wrote.

"While away I will think about if working with a company that doesn't promote boundaries is a place I really want to work at.

"I'm also sending this as an email to Aaron and HR as it's totally unreasonable."

People were pleased that Noel had pushed back on the email.

One wrote: "Business Owner here. Unacceptable by the boss. Not the employees problem. Enjoy Bali!"

While another said: "Massive respects to Noel for continuing to remain professional throughout and standing his ground."

Noel ended up going on his holiday and turned his phone off for three weeks.

Shockingly, his wife received a number of calls from the office - which she didn't answer.

Noel has since gone on to find a new job - and with better pay.
