Man shows $2,000 a month NYC apartment compared to a 'prison cell'

It's almost as small as Harry Potter's bedroom

We all know its expensive to live in or visit New York City.

A three bedroom apartment in West Village can set you back as much as $6,995 a month, and Manhattan prices aren't much better.

For a measly studio apartment in the highly sought after area, it will cost you around $3,000 a month. Yikes.

But content creator Erik Conover has found an apartment for just $89 a night (averaging just over $2,000 a month).

What's the catch, I hear you ask?

Well, let's just say it makes Harry Potter's bedroom under the stairs at the Dursley household look quite good.

The tiny apartment measures around 5ft by 6ft and it's safe to say you won't be able to host any house warming parties there.

There's a bed in there that fits the length of the room perfectly, with a small table next to it attached to the adjacent wall.

There's also a tiny shelf above the bed for so-called storage space, as well as additional 'storage' underneath the bed too.

The apartment block is said to boast around 104 rooms, and appears to have shared shower and toilet amenities.

It also has shared communal areas with a kitchen and seating.

Conover's video has generated a staggering 12 million views; and a lot of people took the time to share their thoughts on the teeny tiny apartment.

"That's the nicest jail cell i've ever seen online," quipped one person.

"Bro is forking out $32k a year for a cupboard," said another.

Noting the likeliness the room has to Harry Potter's bedroom, another person joked: "Hang in there dude. I'm sure that owl with your letter for Hogwarts will show up any day now."

"This is insane! I’m depressed just looking at this room," wrote someone else.

"My hopes and dreams can’t even fit in there," added a different YouTube viewer.

Undeniably, the room gives what was once hailed 'the smallest apartment in New York' a run for its money.

Last year a real estate agent who usually shows off luxury properties decided to change things up and show the smallest apartment that was available to rent at the time.

The property was going for $1,975 a month and was so tiny that the bathroom had to be put in the hallway.

It's located in Greenwich Village in Lower Manhattan and, with it being another highly sought after area of New York, I can imagine that the property is no longer on the market.

But I'm sure there's a nearby cardboard box you could rent for a similar price instead.
