They say never meet your idols, but Anthony Mackie had no choice whilst working on Captain America: Brave New World with Harrison Ford

After playing Han Solo and Indiana Jones, it’s understandable that some actors would be pretty intimidated by Harrison Ford.

In fact, Anthony Mackie was nervous around the A-list actor that he forgot his script on the first day of filming for Captain America: Brave New World.

Not content with starring in some of the biggest franchises ever, Ford is set to star in the highly anticipated Marvel movie with Mackie in the titular role.

Filming has recently wrapped on the latest instalment of the MCU, with Atlanta becoming the backdrop for the highly anticipated film.

While the plot is still a closely guarded secret, Marvel has confirmed that Ford will be appearing as Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, and the 80-year-old recently did a very unconvincing job of denying his character would turn into Red Hulk in the film.

Meanwhile, Mackie picks up the iconic star-spangled shield as he portrays Captain America in his first feature film as the hero.

With so much hype surrounding the film and such an incredible castmate, the 44-year-old struggled to not let nerves get the better of him.

In fact, he even forgot the script on the first day of filming because he was anxious about impressing his new co-star.

In a recent interview with Variety, Mackie admitted: “The first day was so intimidating. I was so f***ing nervous I couldn’t remember my lines. He’s Harrison f***ing Ford.”

However, his nerves were soon calmed as Mackie got to know Ford on set. He said: “There is this aura about him. But he dispels that really quickly because he’s such a cool guy.

“He’s everything a movie star should be. He would say, ‘Let’s shoot this piece of shit.’ And everybody was like, ‘Yeah, let’s shoot this s**t.’”

It also helped that the actors’ characters work closely together throughout the film, as Mackie explained.

“We spent a good bit of time together,” he told the outlet, adding: “Ross and Cap have always had that relationship, where they were friends and they respected each other, but they always bumped heads. That’s their relationship in the storyline.”

While the Real Steel star may have been excited to welcome his co-star to the MCU, Ford admits that the shoot was tougher than he’d anticipated.

“I mean, there are tough days and easy days and fun days and all kinds of days. It’s a tough schedule and, yeah, it’s fun. But it’s not a walk in the park. It’s not fun fun. It’s work,” the actor confessed.

We’ll see if all that hard work was worth it as Captain America: Brave New World smashes into cinemas next year.
