Video about what categories should be added to the Oscars sparks huge debate

Apparently the 24 categories aren't enough...

A TikToker has suggested some additional categories he thinks should be added to the Oscars.

As it stands, there are 24 categories at the Academy Awards including Best Actor, Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director, with this year's ceremony awarding the likes of Cillian Murphy and Emma Stone.

But Seth, who goes by @sethsfilmreviews on the video-sharing platform, has shared some of his own suggestions for categories - and some are a little bit farfetched.

Sharing an image from a scene from John Wick, Seth says he thinks there should be a categories for 'best stune ensemble' (presumably meaning stunt).

"It would be a great way to give [stunt] coordinators credit on their work," he went on to say.

Seth continued to suggest: Best Soundtrack, Best Cast Ensemble, Best Voice Actor/Actress, and even Best Poster.

A slightly more out-there suggestion from Seth was Best Title Card, as well as Best Biopic; as he pointed out that this genre of film often takes up a lot of space in the Best Picture category.

Then, his 'most important' suggestion is a category dedicated just to Nicolas Cage: Best Nick Cage Performance.

"This man is in about 30 films a year," argued Seth. "Why not reward one of his performances?"

Seth's video has been viewed over 66,000 times on TikTok at the time of writing, and people have since weighed in with their own ideas.

"Best horror film. Best debut role," someone wrote.

A second said: "Best choreography would be a better category than stunts, less stigma around the name and could also encompass dance choreographers!"

A third added: "Some great suggestions I’ve said for years I would love to see 'Best scene' some moments get forgotten."

Elsewhere, taking a leaf out of the Grammys' books, another film fan said it would be good to have a best new actor category.

Someone else said: "What about best cameo?"

Jameela Jamil has previously weighed in on the matter herself and called for non-binary people to get their own category at awards shows.

Taking to Instagram last year, The Good Place star said: "Just asking... would it not be better to give non binary people their own category rather than open the door for Hollywood to completely shut out women given the disproportionate amount of men vs women winning at award shows?"

She went on: "If we now have enough non binary talent to restructure entire awards shows, which is GREAT, then we should add than rather run the accidental risk of erasing, no?"

While very passionate about the matter, Jamil's Instagram followers were left divided at the time.
