A huge hint has been given towards the future of the Pirates of the Caribbean films as people continue to wonder if familiar faces are set to return.
Whilst it has been seven years since the last installment in the franchise, the underwhelming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, various different ideas have been thrown around at Disney.
As well as rumours of a spin-off starring Ayo Edibiri, Margot Robbie has been attached to a female-led Pirates film for years now – though no update has been given since the film was confirmed to be dead in the water in late 2022.
Finally, however, in an interview with ComicBook.com – producer Jerry Bruckheimer has cleared up the future of the franchise.

Bruckheimer said: “We're gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don't have to wait for certain actors."
Whilst it isn’t exactly spelled out, the implication seems to be clear, that the next Pirates film is set to feature neither Margot Robbie nor Johnny Depp.
Since Johnny Depp’s controversial legal case against Amber Heard from 2022 – no confirmation has been given regarding the actor’s future.
This, however, is the clearest indication so far that the studio appears to be heading in a different direction from Depp for the next instalment of the franchise.

The script for Pirates 6 is being penned by The Last of Us and Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin, who worked on the story alongside Shrek writer Ted Elliot.
Mazin said in an interview with the LA Times: “We pitched it and thought there's no way they're buying it, it's too weird. And they did! And then we wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone's waiting around," Mazin explained.”
Whilst last year’s writer’s strike has delayed production, this is now over and, working around production of season two of The Last of Us, Mazin and Elliot seem set to pen a final draft of the new Pirates film sooner rather than later.
Speaking previously on the upcoming sixth installment, Jerry Bruckheimer told Entertainment Tonight: “We’re all working on it.

“We’ll see how it comes out. We’re very excited, I think we’re gonna have a great screenplay when, and we’re getting close.”
When asked specifically about Johnny Depp returning as Jack Sparrow, Bruckheimer said: “We’ll see. I would love it.
"I would love to have him in the movie – that’s all that I can tell you.”
Speaking about her Pirates film when she announced it was cancelled, Margot Robbie said: "We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led – not totally female-led – but just a different kind of story, which we thought would’ve been really cool."

She went on to say that she guesses Disney 'just didn't want to do it'.
