Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan share update on Freaky Friday sequel

The Hollywood A-listers have opened up on reprising their Freaky Friday roles after two decades away

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have just shared an update on the long-anticipated Freaky Friday sequel.

The two stars of the iconic family comedy from 2003 are in talks to reprise their roles for a follow-up, which is currently in the works at Disney.

Celebrating the movie's 20th anniversary, Curtis and Lohan have got together to share a little more details about the upcoming flick.

Lohan and Curtis first teamed up together to co-star in Freaky Friday, directed by Mark Waters and based on Mary Rodgers's 1972 novel of the same title.

The plot followed characters Tess (Curtis) and her daughter, Anna (Lohan), do not get along.

After eating an enchanted fortune cookie during a particularly heated mother-daughter spat, things take a turn when their bodies are switched and they are forced to live each other's lives.

The movie went on to gross over $160 million worldwide on a budget of just $26 million, marking it a total commercial success.

And it seems that things are about to get a whole lot freakier in Hollywood with a Freaky Friday sequel now on the horizon.

Curtis, fresh from the Oscars after taking home her first trophy of the sort this year for Everything Everywhere All at Once, told the New York Times that she was biggest advocate for a follow-up to the iconic body-swap comedy.

She said: "As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday.

"Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, 'It feels like there’s a movie to be made'."

Lohan added: "Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be.

"We would only make something that people would absolutely adore."

While the movie went on to be a box-office smash and still retains its iconic status some two decades after its initial release, the Halloween star disclosed that there were some second-thoughts about her performance in the the film.

Namely, that she took the role too 'big'.

Curtis initially had doubts that her performance was too 'big' in the first movie.

She told the outlet: "The first day, we shot the scene where we pull up to the school. I’m the teenager and I’m completely flummoxed because this hot guy is walking over.

"My body freezes up. [Director] Mark [Waters] came up to me the next day and said, 'My editor is wondering if the performance is a little big.'

"I looked at him and said, 'My instinct is all I have to go with. If you don’t like what I’m doing, fire me. I will regret dyeing my hair red, and other than that, it will be fine. But this is what I’m going to do'."

However, it's clear that Curtis' acting instinct paid off.

She recalled: "Years later, I was at the Aero Theater [in Santa Monica] and the editor, who was sitting in front of us, said, 'By the way, I was so wrong'."

It's fair to say, we're definitely all freaking out.
