Halloween Ends has just dropped in cinemas, and fans are having mixed reactions to Laurie Strode's final showdown with Michael Myers.
It's finally 14 October, and you know what that means? David Gordon Green's last instalment in his horror trilogy has dropped, and we can finally start fights in the pub about it.
Look, we know that any end to a beloved franchise is going to have mixed reviews, but there might be some of the most divided we've ever seen.
For those not familiar with the new film, it follows on from Green's Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills (2021), part of the director's trilogy that revamped John Carpenter's incredible Halloween (1978).

Lack of creative naming aside, this film is set to draw a close to Lorie Strode and Michael Myers' story for good: "Four years after the events of last year’s Halloween Kills, Laurie is living with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) and is finishing writing her memoir. Michael Myers hasn’t been seen since. Laurie, after allowing the specter of Michael to determine and drive her reality for decades, has decided to liberate herself from fear and rage and embrace life. But when a young man, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell; The Hardy Boys, Virgin River), is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, it ignites a cascade of violence and terror that will force Laurie to finally confront the evil she can’t control, once and for all."
And that 'once and for all' part really came through in the film's final scenes.

Michael dies. Like fully, ground up by an industrial machine the entire town, dead. To be fair, he puts up an incredible fight before. Not that we're rooting for him. Or are we?
Naturally, the whole 'town pulling together to kill fear' angle wasn't a hit with some, and they took to Twitter (obviously) to absolutely slate the film: "I feel bad for the people that wasted all their energy on bashing Halloween Kills, Ends is the main course. Absolutely atrocious."
However, others stood by the film's end, saying: "I just saw Halloween Ends, it goes in an unexpected direction these franchises toyed with but never explored much. It’s not a big, explosive Michael Myers finale; it quietly contemplates on Haddonfield’s cycle of violence, how fear rots the town. I liked it but it’ll be divisive."

Another echoed a similar statement: "Be very open-minded seeing this movie, that's all I'm saying. #HalloweenEnds takes a very unexpected direction with the story, personally, I actually loved they took a risk to try something new. I was pretty satisfied with the ending, JLC will forever be the SCREAM QUEEN."
