Deadpool 3 director insists the sequel is ‘very much R-rated’

We are edging ever so closer to seeing Deadpool 3 on the big screen and fans couldn't be more excited.

There has been very little revealed about the threequel's plot or who will be appearing in the film.

Obviously Ryan Reynolds' superhero will be the star of the show and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will be making a huge splash.

They've managed to keep everything else under wraps.

However, Shawn Levy has given us assurances that the first Deadpool movie under the Disney banner will still be very much R-rated.

The first two films in the franchise were produced by Marvel and 20th Century Fox.

Following the huge merger between 20th Century Fox and Disney, there were fears that the Mickey Mouse House would sanitise the Merc with the Mouth.

Thankfully, it seems like that won't be the case.

Levy told Deadline: “Our movie is raw, audacious, very much R-rated and we went to great lengths to not shoot it on sound stages with digital environments.”

“We wanted something that felt, grounded, real.

"You put Hugh Jackman in his most iconic character alongside Ryan Reynolds in his most iconic character; it’s more of a descendant of Midnight Run, and 48 Hours, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles more than it’s a descendant of Airplane.”

Levy has also opened up about Jackman's Wolverine suit and how he wants to give the character the send off it deserves.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said: "Like the rest of the world, I’ve waited two decades to see Wolverine in a whole movie with Deadpool, and I don’t know if this is our last shot at Wolverine on screen, so I was going to make goddamned sure we get the old yellow and blue just once, and that we get it right."

The 'old yellow and blue' refers to the superhero suit that Wolverine wears in the comics.

It's remarkably different from what Jackman's character wore on the big screen during the X-Men movies as well as his own spinoff franchise.

It wasn't until 2011's X-Men: First Class that we got to see some yellow and blue from the other superheroes, but even then it was a little lacklustre.

So, Levy brought in a team he knew would deliver the goods.

"It also helps that I'm making this movie within the MCU, so I have access to an army of the nerdiest nerds available to a Marvel project," he said.

The director says they went through multiple fittings and versions to make sure it was perfect for Jackman.
