The ending of Fool Me Once has been explained, but it seems that some viewers are still confused.
Before we get into it, needless to say there are going to be spoilers for Fool Me Once. You have been warned.
For those who don't know, the Netflix show is based on the mystery thriller of the same name by Harlan Coben, and was released on the streaming platform on January 1.

Starring Michelle Keegan, Adeel Akhtar, Joanna Lumley and Richard Armitage, it follows the mystery that unfolds following the sudden death of Joe Burkett (Armitage).
Burkett's wife Maya Stern (Keegan) is mourning his death when she sees him on a nanny cam with their child.
The mystery deepens as she reveals she never actually saw his dead body, and his family acts increasingly suspicious.
Things continue escalating until the series reaches an explosive climax, which left some viewers a little confused about how exactly it had arrived that that ending.

But who was really responsible for Joe's killing?
If you haven't seen Fool Me Once, this is your final warning for spoilers.
It turns out that it was actually Maya all along who had been responsible for her own husband's murder.

Not only that, but she wounded him, staged a robbery and used the blood so that she could make it look as though she had cradled him lovingly as he died.
But why would she do that?
DigitalSpy explained that it was actually to do with the death of Maya's sister, which she was becoming increasingly suspicious that Joe was somehow involved with.
As a test, she went to confront him about the killing, planting a fake handgun that he would bring with him if he was armed.

And then when she confronted him she would believe that there was chance, right up until he pulled the trigger.
Of course, because it was a fake gun she was absolutely fine, but she then drew her own very real gun and killed her husband.
But given that Joe was really dead, how did he show up in the nanny cam footage?
Well, it transpires that Joe's family had got someone to manipulate the footage to make it appear as though he was there as a way to mess with Maya.

Finally, Maya winds up dead at her in-laws house, with an epilogue going to 18 years after her death.
Fans took to the Netflix Bangers Facebook Group to praise the gripping series.
One wrote: "I loved the entire show ... it was awesome."
A second posted: "Crazy ending!! Did not expect it!! Very intense mini series!"
And someone else commented: "Really enjoyed it and kept me hooked."
While others were still left with questions, even after finishing Fool Me Once.
One questioned: "Why paint Shane out to be like he's up to no good, didn't see the point in that."
Another added: "Who else was a little disappointed with the ending to Fool Me Once?"
While a third wrote: "So was she acting the whole time, knowing she killed him or did she forget somehow?"
