Chilling scene sums up why Talk To Me has been named ‘best horror film of the year’

The Australian horror movie arrived on streaming after a short version went viral online

Halloween might be behind us, but some film fans are just now discovering a movie that's earned the title of the ‘best horror film of the year’.

Originally released in 2022, Talk To Me has gained renewed attention recently after arriving on streaming for the spooky season.

Starring Sophie Wilde, Ari McCarthy, Hamish Phillips and Kit Erhart-Bruce among others, the movie follows a group of friends as they attempt to conjure spirits.

I probably shouldn't need to tell you that conjuring spirits isn't a good idea, but on the off chance you were considering it, just watch the movie to learn about the potential consequences for yourself.

There are a number of moments that contribute to the film's scare-factor, but there's one scene in particular that really sums up why viewers have named it the best horror of the year.

Sophie Wilde stars as Mia in Talk To Me.

If you've seen the film, then I'm sure you'll know which one I'm talking about: Riley's possession scene.

The moment comes after the character Mia, played by Wilde, has previously experienced a possession, and seemed to make it out in one piece.

However, things take a dramatic and horrifying turn later when Mia allows Riley to get possessed by the embalmed hand they've been using to conjure spirits.

Things don't go well for Riley, and the whole scene becomes visually disturbing and hard to watch as he starts repeatedly smashing his head on to the table.

Viewers have expressed their praise for the movie and for the possession scene in particular, with one viewer describing Talk To Me as 'soooo good'.

The movie has receiving high praise from fans.

"The most intense scene was definitely when Riley was possessed because s**t went down hill so fast, and just everything else in the film was creepy. i haven’t loved a horror movie like this in a while," they continued on X.

Another fan commented: "if anyone needs a good halloween scary flick - Talk to Me on netflix just really did me in."

"Talk To Me - what a film. One of the best, original horrors I’ve seen in years and doing something completely fresh with possession. Awesome," wrote a third.

The rave reviews continue over on Rotten Tomatoes, where the movie has received an impressive 94 percent on the Tomatometer, as well as an 82 percent Audience Score.

Anthony Gagliardi, of The Movie Podcast, also described the film as 'twisted, terrifying and the best horror film of the year'.

Talk To Me comes from directors and brothers Danny and Michael Philippou, who decided to create the feature after a short version of the movie film went viral online.
