Viewers are binge-watching new Netflix drama series that’s been called a ’10/10’

'Best thing I've seen on Netflix in a long while...'

If you're on the lookout for your next binge-worthy series, look no further than Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen series, which landed on Netflix earlier this week.

You'd be forgiven for being a little confused, given that Ritchie already has a film on the streaming service under the same moniker, but while the filmmaker revealed his new series comes from the same world as the hit film, its narrative is entirely unrelated.

Despite the initial confusion, the eight-episode series has already gone down a treat with viewers since its premiere on 7 March, with some even branding it a 10 out of 10.

Starring White Lotus' Theo James, The Gentlemen series follows an English soldier, Eddie Halstead, who is surprised to learn he has inherited his family's estate over his older brother, following the death of their father.

But what later becomes apparent, is that not only has he inherited the estate, but he has also inherited the huge weed empire that comes with it, despite never knowing it had existed previously.

Speaking to Netflix's Tudum, James said of his character: "He realizes that the estate, this crumbling vestige of the British Empire, has been propped up by criminality."

Eddie decides to set out on a mission to 'extricate the family from the jaws of crime', but quickly becomes entranced by the taste of true power that comes with it.

The Gentleman has already been a big hit for Netflix.

Just days after its release, the series is rating at 73% on the Tomatometer, with an average Audience Score of 83%, but that score could be set to rise if the reviews in the Netflix Bangers Facebook group are anything to go by.

"Love it," one impressed viewer wrote. "Both serious and hilarious that you don’t even realize you are watching a crime show."

A second added: "So far it’s great. Best thing I’ve seen on Netflix for a while," while a third simply wrote: "In my opinion, 10/10."

A fourth added: "Only watched the first episode but it's really good so far. Much needed new good quality content for Netflix."

Meanwhile, others were quick to praise James' performance, with some even going as far as touting him as the newest James Bond.

"This lad would be great as the new James Bond," one wrote, while another responded: "100% both my husband and I said this."

The Gentlemen is available to stream on Netflix now.
