Brendan Fraser defended by fans after people complain about his performance in Killers of the Flower Moon

Fans rushed to the defence of Brendan Fraser after others criticised his performance

Fans of Brendan Fraser have leapt to his defence after others levelled criticism at his performance in Killers of the Flower Moon.

Fraser broke into Hollywood in the 1990s with movies such as George of the Jungle and The Mummy, but ended up taking a hiatus from Hollywood between 2013 and 2019, until critically-acclaimed film The Whale.

Now, the star is once again back on the big screen with a role in Martin Scorsese's latest film, Killers of the Flower Moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.

The movie follows the murder of the Osage people in the late 19th century, after the community discovered oil on their land. The Osage were subsequently cheated and killed by people after their new found oil wealth.

Fraser takes on the role of William King Hale's attorney, W.S Hamilton William, with King Hale being played by Robert De Niro. Given that Hale was a crime lord who was largely responsible for the murders of the Osage people, you might imagine the sort of, let's say pragmatic, person his attorney would be.

However, some people have levelled criticism at Fraser's performance in the movie. One person claimed that he seemed as though he had come straight from the set of The Whale.

They wrote: "Brendan Fraser's entrance in Killers of the Flower Moon. It was almost like he was dragged out from the set of The Whale."

Meanwhile, others claimed it was too over the top and theatrical.

Needless to say, the many people who rate Brendan Fraser were not impressed with the remark, and came out in his defence.

One wrote: "After watching the film I can say with 110% confidence that everyone talking sh*t on Brendan Fraser’s performance in Killers of the Flower Moon are on crack cocaine."

Others responded to the criticism of his being overly theatrical, saying that this is reflective of how a defence lawyer might act at the time.

One wrote: "It was a performance of a performance! He was doing exactly what a defense lawyer is supposed to be doing!"

Another echoed this, writing: "I genuinely have no idea why you think this is a bad performance. Because he's shouting? The diction?

"He's playing to the back seats of the court. He's putting on a performance for the benefit of his client."

Fraser took a hiatus from acting between 2013 and 2019. In 2018, Fraser told GQ the reasons why he took a much-need break from Hollywood, including the death of his mother, and his own health problems.
