People divided over mammoth runtime for Martin Scorsese's new film Killers of the Flower Moon

It's, erm, hefty to say the least...

As anticipation amps up for Martin Scorsese's newest flick Killers of the Flower Moon, one key aspect has seriously divided fans - its staggering runtime.

Starring Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, the new crime drama is based on the best-selling non-fiction book of the same name by David Grann, centring on an investigation by the FBI into a series of 1920s murders of a Native American tribe in Oklahoma.

After oil was discovered in the area, interlopers flooded in and turned to extortion and theft to get their hands on as much cash, before resorting to murder.

As well as DiCaprio and De Niro, the flick also stars Brendan Fraser, Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone and John Lithgow.

So it's a pretty star-studded cast.

The build-up to the film's world premiere has been nothing short of exciting either, with film buffs desperate to get stuck into the acclaimed director's latest project.

In fact, the movie got a staggering nine-minute standing ovation at Cannes Film Festival back in May, leaving Scorsese visibly emotional as he reacted to the applause and thanked the crowd.

It has a hefty runtime.

Speaking to audience after the lengthy standing ovation finally died down, Scorsese said: “It’s taken its time to come around, but Apple did so great by us, shooting out there … there was lots of grass - I’m a New Yorker.

"We also lived in that world with the Osage, we really did, and we really miss it."

Reacting to the audience's incredible applause, he added: "I don’t think I’ve ever experienced [anything] like this."

With anticipation at an all time high for its release next month, one aspect of the flick has left viewers split down the middle... the runtime.

The final runtime comes in at three hours and 26 minutes, which is pretty hefty, let's be honest.

And it's clear it was a bit too much for some fans, with one writing: "hey martin, this one's too long bud."

Another said: "Ain’t that too long for a movie?!," with a third adding: "I’m excited for this movie but this is entirely excessive. Just make it a tv show."

Others, however, weren't deterred.

"Wish it was longer," one said.

Meanwhile, another wrote: "Bring It On!"

Let's be honest, it shouldn't be that surprising giving Scorsese isn't exactly known for making short films, so I guess fans will just have to suck this one up if they aren't happy.

Killers of the Flower Moon hits theaters on October 20 before making its global streaming debut on Apple TV+.
