Martin Scorsese has fulfilled wish he made as he accepted his first Oscar 16 years ago

Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese was able to follow through on his word

Martin Scorsese spoke of his one wish for his career when he won his first Oscar - and over a decade later, he's managed to fulfil it.

Scorsese won his first Oscar in 2007 for The Departed, which starred huge names such as Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Sheen and Jack Nicholson.

The film was based on an undercover agent and a spy constantly try to counter-attack each other in order to save themselves from being exposed in front of the authorities.

The 2006 movie went on to win a host of Academy Awards, where Scorsese finally won Best Director.

He'd been nominated five times prior, but lost out to his fellow nominees.

During his acceptance speech, he thanked a host of people involved in creating the film - the cast in particular.

"So much of [this award] belongs to the cast," he said in his 2007 speech.

"Jack Nicholson for his courage and inspiration, Leo DiCaprio - six and a half years of work we've done together, I hope another 12 or 15 [years]."

He proceeded to namedrop Alec Baldwin, Matt Damon and several others as well.

Over a decade on from expressing his hopes of working with DiCaprio again, the acclaimed director has - and within the time frame he hoped, too.

Killers of the Flower Moon, directed by Scorsese, recently hit cinemas and has DiCaprio as its lead.

The film currently boasts an admirable 92 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

The synopsis for the film (which is over three and a half hours long) reads: "Based on journalist David Grann's 2017 best-selling book of the same name, Killers of the Flower Moon recounts the true story of how a white businessman and self-proclaimed 'true friend' of the Osage Nation orchestrated the brutal murders of numerous members of the tribe in early 1920s Oklahoma."

DiCaprio has been tipped for an Oscar in light of the film's release, with his performance as Ernest Burkhart being hailed as his 'best ever'.

People took to X - formerly known as Twitter - to share their thoughts on the film.

One fan penned: "Just got out of Killers Of The Flower Moon and WOW. I think it’s my favorite movie of 2023.

"It’s a masterpiece in filmmaking and storytelling. I absolutely love the movie. I can see Leonardo DiCaprio winning an Oscar because his acting is literally amazing. You see all emotions, and yes crying too."

"The performances from Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Lily Gladstone were breathtaking," added another.

"I'd be surprised if all three do not even get an Oscar nomination, especially Gladstone's whether it's leading or supporting actress."

Elsewhere, some industry critics labelled DiCaprio's performance as 'the best of his entire career'.
