Mark Wahlberg is an assassin-turned-dad in action-packed trailer for new movie

Mark Wahlberg stars as assassin-turned-dad Dan in The Family Plan, which releases before the year is out.

The next movie starring Mark Wahlberg is just around the corner, and its director has promised it's full of 'genuinely cool action hero stuff'.

Watch the trailer for The Family Plan below:

While Wahlberg is regarded as one of hottest properties in Hollywood, the film's director, Simon Cellan Jones, told UNILAD that the actor was very 'simple' to work with.

The Family Plan tells the story of Dan (Wahlberg), an assassin-turned-dad who is trying to hide his true identity from his family.

Dan had moved away from his life as an elite government assassin to a quiet suburban surrounding as a devoted husband and father of three.

But Dan's past soon catches up on him, as enemies from his days as an assassin end up tracking him down.

Dan subsequently packs up his unsuspecting wife and children into their minivan where they take an impromptu road trip to Las Vegas — but will everyone make it out in one piece?

Sitting down with UNILAD ahead of the release of the brand new trailer, director Cellan Jones spoke about what it was like working with Wahlberg on the project.

"You sort of think these movie stars — 'What are they like? Do they have loads of managers and people? Can you talk to them?' He's just really simple to work with," he admitted.

"I think he must have done 50 movies. So he knows what he's doing. I think you raise your game.

"Actors like Mark Wahlberg, when you get to that level, he's just very cool to work with on multiple levels."

Cellan Jones added: "He loved the film, he had a very clear idea how to play the part. He's got very strong ideas, but he's also very, very collaborative.

"You know, he will listen to people. He doesn't just go ‘I’m the movie star I do what I want’."

For the director himself, he is moving away from the comfort of TV to head up a high-budget project in The Family Plan.

So, how did he find it working on a movie compared to a TV show?

He told UNILAD: "I find it maybe slightly more exciting [film], I could be a little more ambitious than, say, a car chase or a fight saying, we have more time and money to do it.

"I think that it gives you more scope. But it's the same deal. If the script's no good, the film's no good."

The Family Plan will premiere on AppleTV+ from 15 December.
