The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus has opened up about an injury he suffered while on set that left him thinking he was going to die.
It's incredible to think that The Walking Dead has been going on for almost 12 years now, with the zombie apocalypse show's first episode releasing on 31 October, 2010.
Based on the popular comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, in those early days the TV show was already making a few changes from the source material.

The biggest change that would prove to be the most popular was the introduction of Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, who was part of the group of survivors initially camped outside Atlanta that the show has followed ever since.
Although not in the comics originally, Reedus quickly won over audiences with his performance as the tough hunter who proved to be indispensable to the group thanks to his survival skills and iconic crossbow.
As the show is set to wrap up season 11 and conclude things for good, Reedus has spoken about an injury that left him thinking he was going to die.

There's always a risk that actors are going to pick up injuries while on set, and Reedus has had a few scrapes before while working on The Walking Dead, but the most serious wound he's suffered came while filming the show's final season.
There had been an announcement that on 11 March the actor had suffered a concussion while working on the set, putting him out of action for a few days with a body double used for some scenes.
Reedus told Entertainment Weekly the concussion was one of the most scary things he'd ever experienced, and he said he was struck with guilt over the possibility that his injury might be holding up filming.
He said: "Oh dude that was horrible. That whole ordeal for me personally was terrifying. I thought I was going to die.

"It was very serious. It was scary. I've been hit in the face and the head a million times. I've gone through car windows, but that one rung my bell."
The actor explained that he was put through a series of tests after picking up the concussion, recounting that he 'failed the light test' and 'was holding onto the walls walking through the rooms'.
He remembered 'lying in bed' agonising over how long the shoot might be being postponed in his absence while doctors advised him to 'just sit in the dark' as part of his recovery.

With The Walking Dead lasting as long as it has done it would have been a huge shame for the show to lose one of its biggest stars right before the end.
Norman Reedus made Daryl Dixon one of the most popular characters on the show and he deserved to make it to the end.
