Netflix viewers question how Tom Hanks' heartbreaking performance in A Man Called Otto was ignored for an Oscar

People can't stop crying after watching

People are absolutely devastated after tuning in to the film A Man Called Otto - and not just because it's utterly heartbreaking, but because they can't believe Tom Hanks wasn't nominated for an Oscar for his performance.

The 2022 film recently dropped on Netflix, and so, many more eyes are watching the tear-jerking drama for the first time.

But the question on every viewers' lips is: Why didn't anyone make a bigger deal about Tom Hanks' performance in this?

And in case you're one of those people who STILL hasn't seen it, check out the trailer here:

Based on the book A Man Called Ove, and the Oscar-nominated Swedish film of the same name, A Man Called Otto tells the story of a grumpy widower named Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks), who seems to only find joy out of criticising and complaining about his neighbours.

Lonely and heartbroken, he decides to do something drastic, but his plans are swiftly interrupted when a lively family moves in next door.

He meets his match with his new neighbour, the quick-witted and heavily pregnant Marisol (Mariana Trevino), and the two form an unexpected friendship that turns his world upside down.

Now that people have finally gotten around to watching this, viewers are calling for Hanks to receive an Oscar nom - even though it's a little too late for that now.

"Whoever decided not to nominate or give any Oscar’s to a man called Otto is a villain," tweeted one viewer, before adding: "Like y’all I just ugly ugly cried for the entirety of this movie."

A second admitted: "Not much of a Tom Hanks fan but I loved A Man Called Otto on Netflix. Probably because I could relate to his character, a grouchy, bitter old man with a (too) big of a heart. His son played him as a young man. A well-told nice story and an Oscar worthy performance by Hanks."

And a third claimed: "I just watched A Man Called Otto and I can’t remember the last time I cried so hard watching a movie. @tomhanks deserved an Oscar for that one!"

Hanks didn't attend this year's Academy Awards, despite his film Elvis being nominated for Best Picture.

Although he played quite an important role in the film, Colonel Tom Parker, the actor didn't receive a nomination. Even so, he was very popular at this year's Razzies.

Fans needn't feel too sorry for him, though.

After all, he is already the proud owner of two consecutive Best Actor Oscars - both for his performances in Philadelphia (1993) and Forrest Gump (1994).

I'm sure he'll be just fine.
