Johnny Depp Releases New Song With Suspiciously Relevant Lyrics

Johnny Depp has released a new song with suspiciously relevant lyrics, after winning his defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard.

The track, titled 'This is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr', is taken from Depp and Jeff Beck’s forthcoming joint album,18, which is set to be released on 15 July.

Their song seemingly dives into the troubles faced by Austrian-born actress Lamarr, who rose to fame in the 1940s and swapped the silver screen for a career in technology during WWII.

The first verse of Depp's tune begins: "Erased by the same world who made her a star…

"The light of her being, her exotic allure / Was torn at the seams for daring to dream / It’s so hard to speak when you’re frozen in scream… Feels like a dream, but it’s life and its death."

In the chorus, he can be heard singing: "I don’t believe, I can’t believe, I won’t believe humans any more."

While at another point of the song, he bellows: "It's so hard to talk when no one will hear, and everyone stares as you quiver in fear."

Amid his defamation trial, while the jury were deliberating, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor wasted no time in hopping on stage alongside English rock guitarist Jeff Beck.

He appeared in Sheffield, Birmingham and Newcastle as well as the London's Royal Albert Hall, armed with a guitar and even contributing to the concerts with some vocals.

In the wake of his gigs, Beck revealed onstage that he and Depp were set to release an album together.

The guitarist stated: "I met this guy five years ago and we've never stopped laughing since.

"We actually made an album. I don't know how it happened. It will be out in July."

Earlier this month, Depp won his defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Heard in regard to a 2018 op-ed piece she wrote for the Washington Post, titled 'I spoke up against sexual violence – and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change'. Depp was awarded $15 million in damages.

The fees comprise of $10 million (£8 million) in compensatory damages and $5 million (£4 million) in punitive damages. However, due to state law capping punitive damages at $350,000, Depp’s final sum will be $10.35 million.

In a separate verdict, Heard was awarded $2 million (£1.6 million) in damages after her counterclaim against Depp over comments made by his lawyer Adam Waldman, who allegedly referred to her abuse claims as a 'hoax', was found to be defamatory.
