Doctor Reveals Three Reasons For Sharp Chest Pain

A TikToker has answered all our prayers about just why we could be experiencing sharp chest pain.

A TikToker has answered all our prayers about just why we could be experiencing sharp chest pain.

You know the type. The searing, sharp and electric pain which shoots through the side of your ribcage, just below your chest.

After the pain streaks across your side, you question whether it's a sign of impending-death, or if you simply imagined it.

Luckily for you, as always, TikTok has all the answers, and NHS surgical doctor Dr Karan Raj has detailed the three possible reasons you could be experiencing such pain.

The doctor explains there are 'three benign causes for this sharp stabbing pain'.

He explains: 'First, is costochondritis, which is the inflammation of the cartilage that connects the ribs to the breast bone and the sternum.

'Pleurisy, an inflammation of the tissue between the ribs and the lung, the pleura, usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection.

'Precordial catch syndrome. We don't really know the cause, but it involves irritation of the intercostal nerves, nerves that run through the chest wall.'

Responding to the account @females who first made the video questioning why such sharp chest pains occur, the doctor joked: 'Don't you ever go on WebMD again'.

The post has since amassed over 300,000 views, with users flocking to the video to chime in with their own experiences. One said: 'I be thinking it’s my time to go every time.'

Another wrote: 'I thought I was having minor heart attacks or something what can I do about it ?'

A third commented: 'Literally think the grim reaper is at my door when this happens.'

Dr Raj also recently took to the platform to react to a kiwi fruit testing positive for coronavirus on a lateral flow.

And proving that TikTok can be more than just a site for dance videos, a dentist revealed an insanely rare 'dental unicorn'.

So whether you're after an eerie chapel built of bones, a giant snake prank, or some medical info, TikTok apparently is the place to go.
