Elon Musk's Twitter - sorry X - fingers often see him make questionable claims and people are now remembering one in particular where he said the upcoming Cybertruck will be able to be used as a boat.
The richest man in the world probably doesn’t take life as seriously as the rest us so may occasionally just say things for banter or trolling on social media.
In September of last year, Musk posted on X: “Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes and even seas that aren’t too choppy.”

He then added: “Needs be able to get from Starbase to South Padre Island, which requires crossing the channel."
If this is possible, hopefully it doesn’t have any of the technical issues that other vehicles have when they get submerged in water, at least.
Recently, one Tesla Model X vehicle made headlines after it caught fire when it was submerged in water.
Ahead of the Cybertruck’s release on 30 November, many have begun discussing whether the car will really be used as a boat.

Sharing a photoshopped image of the Cybertruck being used like a speedboat, one user commented: “According to Elon Musk, the Tesla Cybertruck can float briefly and be used as a boat over short distances.”
“Never was a fan of these hubcaps, unless of course they help water propulsion when using your Cybertruck as a boat,” another user said commenting on an image of the car’s old vs new hubcaps.
One X user asked: “Seems no one is talking about CyberTruck as a boat anymore. From recent pictures, it doesn’t seem like it has many water tight special treatment, especially the trunk area. Is it still on the table or not anymore?”

Someone else added: “He announced last year that it would be able to float and drive in deep water like a boat. I bet it was the first time the Cybertruck design team had heard this."
One user suggested not to take Musk at his word on the boat possibilities and said the Tesla CEO was simply ambitious.
“You think people actually will buy the Cybertruck to use as a boat? Everyone knows at this point that Elon is overly ambitious. Doesn't mean we can't enjoy the vehicles as simply vehicles,” they commented.

Tesla drivers will be able to find out for themselves when the Cybertruck is released on 30 November.
