One Dead And Five Injured After Mass Shooting Inside US Church

Police have taken a suspect in custody and four victims are in critical conditions.

One person is dead and five others are injured after a shooter opened fire on a church in Laguna Woods, California.

According to the Daily Mail, four people are critically injured following the attack at Geneva Presbyterian Church and one other escaped with minor injuries.

The shooting suspect is in custody and authorities have recovered a weapon they believe was involved in the attack.

A resident in the area told the Los Angeles Times: “I thought it was the fire flaring back up but it was just one after the other. It’s just so heartbreaking. Why? Why our community?”

The office of Californian Governor, Gavin Newsom, expressed their condolences on Twitter.

“No one should have to fear going to their place of worship. Our thoughts are with the victims, community, and all those impacted by this tragic event," they said.

AP reports the shooting happened in an area that has a cluster of places of worship that include Catholic, Lutheran and Methodist churches as well as a Jewish synagogue.

It comes just one day after an 18-year-old man is accused of opening fire at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, killing 10 people.
