Rapper MoneySign Suede discovered dead after being stabbed in prison showers

Fans of rapper MoneySign Suede are flocking to social media to commemorate the 22-year-old after he was killed in prison.

The rapper - real name Jaime Brugada Valdez - was rapidly rising to fame with songs such as 'BACK TO THE BAG,' having been signed to Atlantic Records in 2021.

However, he ended up in prison in the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad, California in January and handed 32 months after being sentenced for two counts of firearm possession and having broken parole in an earlier conviction.

Valdez passed away on Tuesday evening (25 April, 2023) as a result of 'injuries consistent with a homicide' which he sustained while in prison.

Valdez's lawyer, Nicholas Rosenberg, said officials reported the young rapper had been stabbed in the neck while in the shower area of the prison.

He was discovered just before 10.00pm, according to a statement from California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

An investigation is said to be underway.

Rosenberg said: "People are very shocked. He was a very popular guy, very mild-mannered. People loved him."

People have flooded to Twitter upon hearing the news of the 22-year-old's passing.

One wrote: "RIP @moneysignsuede ION THINK THEY UNDERSTAND HOW TRAGIC THIS ROAD IS WHEN YOU CHOOSE TO BE A RAP ARTIST IN LOS ANGELES."

"Moneysign $uede’s mom called him ‘Gordo’ since he was a baby. Two of Suede’s motivations in music: putting his city on the map and his mother. No doubt Huntington Park has become synonymous with Suede, and hope that makes his family and mom proud. Sending love to $uede and fam," another commented.

A third said: "RIP MoneySign Suede, much more than L.A.'s own Mexican-American Kodak, but who also channeled that same pain, indomitability & sense of struggle. A young regional hero embodying the hopes & aspirations of the unsung and overlooked. Killed in jail far too young. Devastating."

"Rest easy kid ,I pray for your during your transition. May God place his arms around you and guide you along the way. HP will never forget you!" an Instagram user said.

A final user resolved: "Ima miss you so much bro. Thank you for everything bro. Out of all the n****s I done met. You were the realist one. So humble from day One. Wish I could’ve talked to you one more time but I’m glad I got to spend your last day out with you. Just know you made us so proud. Love you brother."
