Families of Kansas City Chiefs fans who were found dead in friend's backyard say 'nobody believes' the story

The families of the Kansas City Chiefs fans who were found dead in a friend's backyard believe 'something is not right'.

The families of the Kansas City Chiefs fans who were found dead in friend's backyard say 'nobody believes' the story on how they lost their lives.

David Harrington, 37, Ricky Johnson, 38, and Clayton McGeeney, 36, were all found dead outside a home in Kansas City, Missouri, rented by Jordan Willis on 9 January. This was two days after they went to watch the Chiefs take on the LA Chargers.

It wasn't until police knocked on the door to conduct a welfare check - after receiving a call from one of the men's fiancée - that Willis had any idea that his friends were dead in his backyard, according to Willis' lawyer, John Picerno.

Willis allegedly didn't think it was 'unusual for his friends to have left their cars there overnight', and had not realized people were looking for them.

However, as police further investigated the scene, they confirmed there was a body on the back porch.

Kansas City police Captain Jake Becchina has stated that the case is '100 percent not being investigated as a homicide'.

Becchina said in a statement: "There are no specific threats or concerns for the surrounding community at this time. The resident at the house was cooperative with detectives the day the deceased were discovered."

However, the heartbroken families involved believe there are major inconsistencies in the story.

The trio were found earlier this month.

"Nobody believes this story. None of his friends, none of the families, none of us believe it... Everybody is furious," said Jennifer Marquez, Harrington's mother.

In conversation with NewsNation, Johnson's mother, Norma, said: "It's very hard holding up. Something is not right," before stating that the police are 'not doing anything' to find out what happened to the sports fans.

Norma went on to suggest that the trio were 'poisoned'.

Picerno has claimed Willis was sleeping on the couch with a loud fan running next to him when friends and family members of the deceased came looking for him.

The three men were found dead in the backyard.

Willis also allegedly didn't see a message from one of the men's wives until after he was contacted by police.

Speaking to the New York Post, Picerno said: "He was asleep. He was asleep on the couch.

"The last memory he has is of them leaving [out] the front door, he doesn’t know what happened, um, with them, until you know, when the police came Tuesday night to his house."

It has been reported that Willis has moved out of the rented home where police found the three men dead.
