New The Elder Scrolls game will not be released on PlayStation

A newly-unveiled document states that ES6 will skip PlayStation and will instead be exclusively via Xbox and PC

New documents have seemingly revealed that The Elder Scrolls 6 will not be available to play on PlayStation.

After Bethesda was bought out by Microsoft for $7.5 billion in 2021, fans and critics alike have questioned whether The Elder Scrolls series would eventually become exclusive to Xbox.

CEO of Microsoft Gaming Phil Spencer has previously evaded the question, but now it seems as if new documents have done the hard work for him.

Axios reporter Stephen Totilo has taken to social media to post a document that claims the new role-playing game will be following in Starfield's footsteps and will totally skip releasing on PlayStation.

The document in question is allegedly lifted from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) versus Microsoft trial over the Activision Blizzard buyout.

It also includes a list of announced Bethesda games, their release date, and what platforms they will be available to play on.

Totilo’s original post reads: “From Microsoft’s responses in the FTC vs Microsoft case. Elder Scrolls VI listed here as Xbox and PC and releasing 2026 or later.

“During testimony at the hearing, Xbox’s Phil Spencer went on to say the game was at least five years out and platforms were technically TBD.”

So while this ‘official’ document may initially dampen the hopes of PS5 owners, there is still a chance of the video game making its way to the Sony console.

Following Totilo’s post, fans have had their say across social media.

One X user wrote: “Excellent. TES 6 should 100% be exclusive to Xbox consoles & PC. The success of Starfield proves that Bethesda games don't need the PlayStation platform to succeed.”

Another said: “Is anyone really shocked ES6 would not go to PlayStation?”

ES6 was announced to be in pre-production five years ago.

“This is to be expected and looks great. By the time ES6 shows up they will have been owned by Microsoft for over 5 years. There would be no reason to be developing anything of non-Microsoft hardware at that point,” replied a third.

However, another user speculated on the time frame listed in the document and that which Spencer claimed.

They wrote: “3 to 5 (sic) years. It took Starfield 8 years. They just started working on ES6. I’m sure of it that ES6 will be a launch title on the next Xbox console. Next gen.”

Another user commented: “PlayStation fans are gonna be mad for the next every day till 2033, when this game launches, and then for the next 15 years each time they re-release it.”

At the time of writing, the sixth instalment to the Elder Scrolls series is yet to be given an official release date.
