Moment PlayStation 2 is released at GameStop in 2000 has viewers in disbelief

Ah, the PlayStation 2, those were the days.

Coming home from a hectic school day to waste an unhealthy amount of time playing The Simpsons:Hit & Run, GTA, Pro Evo, and a bit of WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw.

Nothing highlights that time more than the magical moment in 2000 when Sony dropped their second generation PlayStation console at GameStop - leaving the viewers of today in utter disbelief.

Earlier this month, a video from late 2000 resurfaced on social media, showing people lining up to get their hands on a PS2 at GameStop.

While waiting in the queue, viewers noticed how there was not 'a cell phone in sight' and how chill everyone was.

People were reading, talking, and even playing with their pets.

One dude patiently waiting in-line while sipping on a can of Dr Pepper said: "Why am I here? For the PlayStation 2. The best entertainment system to hit the world. It's gonna be great."

Another gamer said: "It's one of those things you've been waiting for forever finally comes. One of them things."

Someone else, who decided to bring along his kitty, added: "It's a next evolution of PlayStation and they're doing it right from the beginning.

"Backward compatibility, allowing you to play the old games.

"You don't have to buy new game cartridges."

When the clock hit midnight, a smiley GameStop employee hit the queue with a countdown, as everyone joined in without any fuss.

Viewers were shocked at how no one was causing any trouble whatsoever, with one person commenting: "People actually waiting in orderly lines and not pushing and shoving, or starting a riot. Entitlement is at an all time high."

Another pointed out: "Teenagers reading while waiting, you don't see that anymore."

While a third person wrote: "I really miss the era of lining up for game and console releases. That was a cool thing that happened and it's sad that it's completely dead now."

"When life was simpler," a fourth added.

Back then, the introductory price in the US was £299 and the console went on to have a lifespan of 13 years - one of the longest lifespans of any video game console.

155 million units in total were reportedly shipped worldwide.
