Matthew McConaughey's Yellowstone spinoff is still going ahead

Paramount boss Chris McCarthy has addressed the rumours.

Matthew McConaughey's Yellowstone spinoff is still going ahead with or without Kevin Costner.

Fans are begging for another rendition but are unable to get their hopes up due to the rumours surrounding Costner - who has co-written, directed and starred in the most watched show on cable and broadcast.

The series follows a sixth-generation homesteader and devoted father, John Dutton (Kevin Costner) who controls the largest contiguous ranch in the United States.

"He operates in a corrupt world where politicians are compromised by influential oil and lumber corporations and land grabs make developers billions," the synopsis reads.

"Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect, Dutton's property is in constant conflict with those it borders, an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and America's first national park."

Recent reports have suggested that the 68-year-old lead star wants to cut back on filming to focus on another project.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount boss Chris McCarthy has admitted that the show 'wouldn’t be what it is today without Kevin and we hope that that stays for a long time to come'.

The publication have reported that McCarthy confirmed McConaughey's involvement in the Yellowstone extension 'will move forward regardless of whether Costner returns to the original'.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "Smart Move McConaughey," while another added: "Yup, I’d watch that."

Whereas someone else disagreed: "We will only watch Yellowstone series if only Kevin is there."

And another person thought: "What is that, like, 14 spin-offs at this point?"

The success of Yellowstone also produced spin-off series 1883 and the upcoming 6666, making the franchise an entertainment juggernaut with high ratings and critical acclaim.

A Paramount Network spokesperson has said: "We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come.

"Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built."

According to Deadline, Yellowstone star Wes Bentley has said Sheridan already has a clear idea of how the show is going to end and has planned for the way the series will come to a close.

The actor gave no clear picture on how many more episodes or seasons it would take to wrap up the story of Montana rancher John Dutton, who became state governor in the fifth season.
